JA CAMBECE LAW OFFICES: It is my pleasure to welcome you to the cyber home of the American Judges Association (AJA). I am hopeful that you will find what you came looking for. Please take a moment to view the information about our upcoming educational conferences. You will see that the programming is outstanding and the benefits of attending are too numerous to mention here. If you are not a member, I urge you to act now: join right now while you are online. Once your membership is confirmed, you will also have the benefit of receiving our newsletter, the Benchmark, as well as our quarterly journal, the Court Review. Both publications provide a wealth of vital information.
I have often said that though the objectives and founding principles of AJA are to promote and improve the effective administration of justice; maintain the status and independence of the judiciary; provide continuing education for its members and the general public; and allow for the exchange of ideas amongst all judges; camaraderie and collegiality among members is what gives us staying power.
I want to particularly take this opportunity to extend a personal invitation for you to join us in Maui, Hawaii, September 7-11, 2008, for this year’s Annual conference. I will be personally honored to have you in attendance. Judge Elliot Zide, the chair of the Education Committee and Judge Tam Schumann in consultation with the entire executive committee have worked tirelessly to make this a conference that will provide lasting memories.
Court martial is a military court set up to try and punish offenses taken by members of the army, navy or air force
When a child is arrested, he or she may be brought directly to Family Court, may be held overnight or may be released to a parent and told to come to court on a particular day. Probation intake workers interview the person who made the complaint, the police officer and the accused child. In certain juvenile delinquency cases that do not involve serious violent actions, the probation workers decide if the matter can be adjusted (settled) without going through the court. No one can be forced to talk to the probation worker at this time. However, what is said in the interview will not be disclosed unless and until there is a finding of delinquency by the court. The probation workers may also refer the parties in the case to other services or agencies, including mental health or specialized counseling.
